Regarding the following verse from the Holy Qur’an:
And for Allah is the kingdom of the skies and the earth, and Allah is able upon all things [3:189] In the creation of the skies and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day there are signs for the ones of understanding [3:190]
Abu Ja’far (as) said:
The one who is not guided by the creation of the skies and the earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, and the orbits of the planets, and the sun and the moon, and the wonderful signs, to the fact that behind that is a great Command, so he would be blind in the hereafter and has strayed from the way.
[Al Tawhid 6/455]
I (the narrator) asked Abu Abdullah (as) about what the people are reporting that pondering (tafakkur) for a while is better than standing (up for the salat) at night. I said: How does one ponder (tafakkur)? He (as) said: When one passes by the ruins (of places) or by the (ruined) house, one asks (himself), “Where is your dwelling? Where is your foundation? How come you are not speaking?”
[Al Kafi 2/45]
The Holy Prophet (s) went out one day to a people and they were pondering, so he (s) said: What is the matter with you all that you are not speaking? They said: We are pondering regarding the Creation of Allah (swt). So he (s) said: And such is what you should do. Ponder (tafakkur) regarding His (swt) creation, (but) do not ponder regarding Him (swt).
[Ad’dur-e-mansur 2:408, Al Muhajjal Bayda 8:193]
The Holy Prophet (s) said: Give your eyes their share of the worship. The people asked: And what is their share of lthe worship, O Rasool Allah (s)? He (s) said: The looking (nazara) into the Mus’haf (meaning Holy Quran), and pondering (tafakkur) over it, and taking lesson from its wonders.
